Making Live Journal Icon 2 (Using Brushes)

1. Load this set of brushes I've got from this site. (Go to this page, download brushes set 001).

2. Open a picture. Preferably, a photoshoot kind of picture. Mine is Gaspard Ulliel which I've got from this site.

3. Create a 100x100 pixels canvas board. File > New > set the size to 100x100 pixels > OK.

4. Press CTRL+V (paste). As you may see, the picture doesn't fit the canvas, so resize it. Go to Edit > Transform > Scale. And resize it. Before you resize it, activate the chain tool . Why should? So when you resize the picture it'll be still proportional.

5. After you get the desirable size to fit the canvas, press enter on the keyboard.

6. Sharpen the picture so you will get a scattered effect. Go to Filer > Sharpen > Sharpen.

7. And then, create a new layer. Just click at the icon second from right.

8. Go to color palette and choose the color #FFFFFF.

9. Go to Brush tool and choose , and choose this shape. And set the size of the brush into 190 pixels.

10. Already choose that shape?, than brush the layer. Try to get or make your own composition. After that Sharpen it (Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen).

11. To finish, simply just add text. Try to be as 'moody' as you can by adding lyrics or phrase that sounds unique or meaningful. The last result is below.
